When Excitement Turns Into Serious Anxiety
Never forget where you're going
This time of year is usually full of mixed emotions. I am grateful for the year we are closing out, but excited for the new year to ring in.
Yet, if I am not careful my excitement will turn into serious anxiety.
It’s part of why I find it next to impossible to unplug this time of year.
One of the keys for me to keep anxiety away is to remind myself where we are going.
Let’s dive in!
Never forget where you're going
“Don't forget where you came from."
You’ve probably heard the phrase – it’s become a mantra for those who have risen against all odds to transform their lives.
It serves a powerful purpose – particularly when success begins to cloud our vision of who we are at our core, or when we lose sight of the immense effort that got us to where we are now.
It also reminds us to appreciate the journey and the people who have supported us along the way.
However, there is another side to this statement that often goes unsaid:
"Don't lose sight of where you're going."
As victories stack up and we look back on how far we've come, it's easy to believe that we have arrived at success.
But the truth is, we need to hold on to the growth mindset until the bitter end.
The moment we start thinking that we’ve “made it” and the climb is over, life has a way of knocking us down and forcing us to start all over again.
It is essential to remember that success is not a destination, but an ongoing journey.
While we acknowledge our roots and appreciate the progress we have made, it is equally important to keep our eyes fixed on the horizon.
Hold a clear visualization of the path ahead and embrace the growth mindset that keeps you sharp, humble, and continually striving to do better.
By keeping your sights set on the future, you ensure that you maintain the momentum and drive you need to reach new heights of achievement.
Never settle into complacency or become stagnant in your pursuit of growth and excellence.
Each moment presents an opportunity for learning – improvement – a chance to push the boundaries of what you can achieve.
By embracing the journey ahead, you ensure that success becomes a lifelong pursuit rather than a fleeting destination.
Turning failures into millions
Here’s a word you should know:
Kakorrhaphiophobia
Most of us might be afraid to say this word aloud.
Ironically, this speaks to the very definition of the word.
Kak·or·rhaph·io·pho·bia is the abnormal fear of failure, and it’s a crippling anxiety that prevents someone from completing even the most routine tasks.
Hesitating to read a difficult word aloud doesn’t mean you have a phobia…
Yet it’s important to recognize that fear of failure is pretty common.
We've all been there, whether it's in our personal lives or professional careers.
That little voice inside your head second guessing your decisions and leaving you paralyzed – unable to make your next big move.
It's a natural tendency to want to avoid putting ourselves in a position where we might experience failure…
…but what’s important to remember here, is that failure is not the end.
In fact, it's often a necessary step to success.
Failure provides some of the most valuable lessons we have to learn.
For each loss, we gain more clarity about the framework of success.
With a growth mindset, failure can actually fast track future success by providing an exact template to turn shortcomings into wins.
Some of the greatest inventions, businesses, and achievements we have today were built on the stepping stones of repeated failures.
So the next time you feel fear creeping in… remind yourself that it's okay to fail.
With each loss arrives an opportunity to learn, adjust, and come back stronger.
Use your failure to fuel your determination, and launch you into success.
So the next time you're faced with the risk of failure – know that with the right perspective, either outcome will provide a path forward.
