IMG Academy Visit, 6 Tools for Newsletters, and Trump For President Lessons

Three rules for overcoming failure

This past weekend I headed to IMG Academy with Susan and Caden for a lacrosse tournament.

Below is a quote that really hit home for me.

Also, I get into three rules that successful people follow when they make mistakes - these transform their failures into leveraged growth.

And if you ever wondered how to run a million dollar per year newsletter business then check out the 6 tools I recommend.

Let’s dive in!

So Trump’s running for President again…

Love him or hate him - the guy is a lightning rod.

And this year is about to get very interesting (as if things weren’t “interesting” enough already).

One major question comes to mind though…

Did Trump learn his lesson?

He had a serious shot at winning the 2020 election - but some say his ego was his downfall.

And regardless of your opinion on the results - he ultimately failed…

So, is he going to do anything differently this time around?

Because the truth is - everyone fails.

Presidents, celebrities, and entrepreneurs just like you and me.

Failing is common and necessary for growth.

But there are three rules that successful people follow when they make mistakes - these transform their failures into leveraged growth.

  1. They own their mistake.

They don’t shift blame, create excuses, or cover things up. Successful people own everything.

  1. They identify the things that they could have done differently.

They take inventory of exactly what caused their failure. The oversights, miscommunications, poor decisions, all of it. If it’s not identified and tracked, there’s no way to avoid it in the future.

This brings us to the most important rule…

  1. They don't repeat the mistake.

Once you’ve owned your responsibility and identified the things you could have done differently - it’s vital that you don’t make the same mistake twice.

Gather the lessons and data from your failure and use it to make better, more strategic decisions in the future.

Again, everyone fails.

If you’ve failed, or you’re experiencing a failed endeavor right now - good!

You’re gaining experience and perspective that can serve your business mightly in the future.

I've built multiple $1m+ per year newsletters for my clients.

Background I’ve built multiple million-dollar newsletters for myself and other brands. Now I’m helping other people do the same.

Here are my 6 favorite tools: (All free or affordable)

1. BeeHiiv

This is your newsletter and email marketing software.

I love it for beginners and advanced people.

It’s easy to start with and scale with. I can’t say enough good things about it.

2. GoDaddy

Don’t send newsletters from an “ @gmail ” domain. It’s unprofessional, and it doesn’t scale. Instead, get your own domain.

I get mine from GoDaddy, but there are tons of other options, like Namecheap.

3. WordPress

This is where I build my websites. It’s the default choice for online businesses, especially blogs.

Buy hosting, then install WordPress. Webflow is another popular option.

4. Google Workspace

You need to connect your custom domain to an email address. Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) is my favorite way to do that.

It’s pretty easy to DIY, or you can hire someone to cheaply set it up.

5. Feedly

This is my secret weapon in the content space. Most don’t know about it. It compiles content from news and competitors.

Other software tools do this too, but this is my favorite of them.

6. Canva

Written content is great, but you’ll probably need some graphics to take it to the next level.

Canva is the perfect place to get them. It creates beautiful visuals, and it’s free or affordable.

Fuel (Bonus)

This isn’t a tool. It’s what makes your newsletter run.

Fuel is traffic.

You can get it with paid ads, organic content, referrals, or all of them. Once you build the machine, work on feeding it.

Kennedy Krew Adventures

This past weekend Susan and I took Caden to IMG Academy for a Regional Lacrosse tournament.

It was a unique experience to play against 12 year olds from all over the country and have professional lacrosse players hanging out for the games.

In the locker room they have a quote on the wall that says…

There may be people who have more talent than you, but there’s no excuse for anyone to work harder than you do.

Derek Jeter

This really hit home! You don’t have to be the best, but you have to be willing to outwork the best.

Rooting for ya!
