This Is A Better Investment Than College
the worst advice for young people
Welcome to The Uncommon Advice, a weekly newsletter where I provide actionable insights for building a business that gives you the time freedom and lifestyle you want.
This Is A Better Investment Than College
“Any degree is better than no degree” is becoming the worst advice for young people…and most believe that college is the pathway to high paying jobs and better career prospects.
High schools even push individuals to attend college just for social status and recognition.
But the modern job market doesn’t care for degrees like they used to.
You can generate significant revenue through quality content and ads instead of getting stuck in a low-pay time-consuming job.
Between the financial stress of student loans and shrinking job pool, starting a newsletter proves to be a better investment than college.
Here are five reasons why:
1. You can invest in a newsletter for a fraction of the cost:
According to a recent Gates Foundation survey, 4 million fewer teenagers enrolled in college last year than 2012.
The price tag has simply grown too exorbitant to justify the cost - estimating at about $104,108 on average to attend 4 years of public university.
Through newsletters, subscriptions and sponsored content are some of the most powerful ways to make money off the Internet.
Plus: You won’t sit through four years of classes before you start.
2. A newsletter lets you work on what you love:
No matter what your passions are in life, a newsletter can always reflect that. A college degree, on the other hand, can’t always promise a happy ending.
A Mental Health America survey found some graduates are unhappy in their jobs, with 71% looking to change employers.
Most say they don’t get the money they deserve or support from their supervisors.
Through newsletters, you are your own boss.
You drive whatever content you want and monetize from there.
3: A newsletter will fast-pace your career:
From the quality of content to how often you publish, a newsletter’s success is in your hands.
When it comes to college degrees, you rely entirely on the institution.
Some students take up to six years to graduate, with others still in school or dropping out…
And for every year you’re in school, the additional expenses rack up.
While community colleges are substantially cheaper, they can still eat up a lot of years.
Wouldn't you rather be doing what you love right now? Why wait?
4. A newsletter offers the most updated information:
While college curriculums are filled with outdated information and poor preparation for the job market, a newsletter takes your sights online.
You can find the latest, most relevant information pertaining to your interests.
You can do your own research and make your own views without being force fed an opinionated lecture.
A newsletter puts the power back in your hands - decide your own education.
5. A newsletters offers more opportunities in life:
A tightening labor market has led to less jobs for college graduates.
Recent employer surveys even show that workers without college degrees have been just as productive as their college-educated counterparts.
While corporate companies expand their hiring practices, the job pool only shrinks.
Newsletters, however, only create new possibilities for your business, brand, and audience.
You aren’t just an employee at another company.
You position yourself as an expert and build the buzz.
The Wrap
Starting a newsletter isn’t just a better investment than college - it’s a life opportunity.
Between multiple income streams and the opportunity to bring together a powerful, loyal community, a newsletter works all ends.
Some college degrees are becoming nothing more than another piece of paper.
Uncommon Advice: Success
Success is your responsibility.
One thing I try and teach my kids on a daily basis is not to point the finger and blame others.
Success requires you to own the good and the bad, because it's the actions you take that get you were you are.
To reach our potential we need to take full accountability for our decisions and actions that fo success.
Rooting for ya!
